A live thread is a discussion where the question is open now and somebody is still waiting on an answer. Dead threads don't get drafts. Neither do threads where the match is loose, because a reply that only half fits reads as an ad.

How does a draft avoid sounding like spam?

Every draft has to carry one fact that's only true about your product, or it doesn't publish. That one rule kills most spam before it's written, because generic praise has no fact in it.

Then there's the refusal list: no em dashes, no AI filler verbs, no recycled year-trend posts. Those are the tells that a machine wrote the copy, and readers on Hacker News spot them on the first line.

The draft also answers the question first. Your product shows up as the reason the answer is credible, and sometimes it doesn't show up at all. That reads as a person who built the thing and is bored of pretending otherwise.
